The Karawanken-Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark welcomes the 53rd European Geopark Network Coordination Committee Meeting, between 23rd and 26th of March 2026.

The cross-border Karawanken–Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark is located between Austria and Slovenia and encompasses several Alpine peaks rising above 2,000 meters, including Petzen/Peca and Koschuta/Košuta. The area is shaped by the Periadriatic Fault Zone, one of the most significant geological structures in the Alps, and is home to traces of ancient volcanic activity that have contributed to its exceptional geological diversity. The Geopark also boasts a long tradition of lead and zinc mining, and its remarkable geological heritage is reflected in the great variety of rare plant and animal species found from the lowest valleys to the highest summits.

Gala Dinner at Hotel Korošica, Otiški vrh 25a, 2373 Šentjanž pri Dravogradu (SI), with an accompanying cultural programme.

Transfer service to the accommodation will be available at around 22.30 and 23:00.

The 3 different planned field trips will give participants the opportunity to explore key locations within the Geopark and deepen their understanding of its geological, natural and cultural significance.

The Geopark will offer transfer from accommodation to Bleiburg Stadt Train Station.

Main conference location
