Weather in Geopark Karawanken-Karavanke

In the second half of March, the Karawanken–Karavanke UNESCO Global Geopark usually experiences early spring weather. Temperatures in the valleys are generally mild, around 10 °C during the day and close to freezing at night, while the surrounding mountains remain much cooler and may still be covered with snow.

Rain showers are common at lower altitudes, and occasional snow can still appear in higher areas.

What to Bring

Early spring weather in the Alps can be unpredictable, so it’s best to dress in layers. Light but warm clothing, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable shoes are recommended for all outdoor activities and excursions. A scarf, hat, or light gloves can come in handy on cooler mornings, while sunglasses and sunscreen are useful for sunny days.

In Short

Expect fresh, changeable early-spring conditions — a mix of sunshine, cool air, and occasional rain showers. With practical, layered clothing and comfortable footwear, you’ll be ready to enjoy the beauty and variety of the Geopark in any weather.
